Cassington Women’s Institute

We meet in Cassington Village Hall at 7.30 on the 3rd Thursday of the month. When we briefly discuss the running of our WI followed by a different monthly Speaker who will give us a talk or demonstration on a wide variety of subjects. This is followed by a raffle, tea/coffee, biscuits and time to talk with friends.

Examples of our talks are: Country Women’s Legacy (about founding a school in Zambia).

The Ridgeway… the oldest road.

Oxford Preservation Trust.

Gemstones.

National Parks of England and Wales.

Travel.

In August we do not have a Meeting but have our Annual Outing to a place of interest along with a lunch and a glass of wine.

In December we hold a Christmas party in a Members home and in January as well as our usual Meeting have Christmas lunch at a local pub.

During the year we have 3 Open Meetings when anyone male or female is welcome to come and join us. There is no charge for this but any donation given is appreciated as these talks are usually given by more expensive Speakers.

By becoming a Member of the Cassington WI not only do you get to know and make friends with people from our village plus other nearby villages you become a Member of a County and National Organisation. This brings many more opportunities for fun and education as other talks and outings are organised at both the County and National level, such as “Blue Badge” tours to London and other towns and cities. Plus, Exhibitions, Science Lectures and Countryside walks. Many Members have learnt to play bowls, croquet and golf thanks to their WI Membership.

So please do not hesitate come along and visit us you do not have to join immediately, you are very welcome to have a few taster sessions. Neither will you be expected to sing Jerusalem and definitely not to make jam, though the odd cake for a Member’s birthday instead of biscuits never goes amiss.

During the last difficult year when indoor meetings have not been possible, we have met up outside, weather and restrictions permitting, and through the winter via zoom meetings. By email and telephone we have kept our Institute alive and well and supported each other throughout.
